About Carole Shepherd

An Introduction to the Practice

With nearly 30 years of experience in integrative psychotherapy, Carole Shepherd, LCSW-R, LMT, RYT-500, SEP, provides a highly specialized approach to trauma resolution and addiction recovery. As an EMDRIA Approved Consultant, her practice is defined by a synthesis of deep clinical insight and advanced neurobiological modalities.

By weaving together EMDR, Internal Family Systems, psychodynamic perspectives, and somatic practices, she addresses the complexities of ingrained patterns while resolving the underlying psychological and physiological dynamics that underpin them.

Clinical Leadership & Mentorship

Beyond her private practice, Carole is dedicated to the evolution of the field, mentoring post‑Master’s clinicians toward EMDR certification and consulting on the treatment of complex trauma and dissociation.

Her career is rooted in clinical innovation across several of New York’s leading mental health organizations. She served as a Clinical Supervisor and Program Developer at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy (ICP) Trauma Studies Center, where she co-facilitated the pioneering Mind/Body Skills Pilot Program.

Carole’s leadership extended to the National Institute for the Psychotherapies (NIP), where she served as Associate Director, faculty member, and Executive Committee member for the Trauma & EMDR Treatment Service. Her deep roots in integrative health also include supervisory roles at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, South Nassau Communities Hospital, and the Midtown Center for Complementary Care (a Columbia-Presbyterian sponsored facility).

A Global Commitment

Driven by a commitment to service, Carole is an active member of the Trauma Recovery, EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Program (HAP). Through this work, she brings evidence-based interventions to disaster-affected areas, providing essential care and stability to those in acute need.
