Sometimes, talking alone is not enough to foster a sense of balance, and feelings of well-being we want to achieve. Mindfulness, relaxation training and yoga therapy are some of the complementary approaches I incorporate into clinical practice, as the need arises. Complementary therapy is a broad term that applies to many types of health care practices that are used in conjunction with conventional treatments.
Complementary therapies can enhance psycho-therapeutic treatment in a number of ways. For instance, people may use yoga, meditation, and other complementary practices to calm the nervous system, reduce stress and to improve wellness and quality of life.
Complementary therapies are meant to enhance, not replace conventional treatment you may be receiving for physical or psychological conditions.
MINDFULNESS MEDITATION
Psychotherapy and meditation both offer opportunities for increasing self-awareness. Meditation teaches us how to stay centered in the midst of change and how to use difficult situations and emotions to cultivate a more compassionate and abiding relationship with our bodies and minds.
You can learn to stay in touch with the present moment, without having to ruminate about the past or agonize about the future. Meditation is not about “getting it right” or attaining any ideal state. It is about being able to stay present with ourselves and remaining open to whatever arises.
SOMATIC THERAPY
I integrate acupressure, breath work, sensory awareness and relaxation techniques to help support the body's innate, healing capacities. Somatic therapy can help address emotional concerns and some effects of trauma that are not as likely to be resolved through talk therapy alone.
YOGA THERAPY
Yoga Therapy offers practical tools to promote wellness and balance at all levels of human experience: physical, emotional, mental and energetic. I combine the ancient tradition of Yoga with elements of contemporary body-mind psychology to help clients achieve autonomic nervous system equilibrium, foster physical and emotional balance and to improve mood.
LIFE FORCE® YOGA
LifeForce Yoga® is a mindfulness practice that combines meditation and breathing techniques and simple yoga postures to bring the body and mind into balance. These simple tools are very effective in relieving symptoms of anxiety and depression. In one or two sessions of Life Force Yoga, you will come away with your own set of practices to use whenever needed or as a daily meditation routine.
